i'm alive when the sun sets and the lights come up all over town. i live my life to the fullest, and i want nothing but the best for me and those i love. my life is an open book. i hide no secrets, but i protect those that are entrusted to me. i love my life and everything about it, and given the chance to live it again, i won't change anything.

so i did…

…attend the party last saturday.

fun, fun, fun, despite coming in from shift and knowing that i had to go to work that night.

after shift ended we (that's richard, donna, emman and i) went ahead to congo grille at el pueblo. when we got there, the place was already packed, because the newbies  and those whose shifts ended at 8:30am were already there. which was okay because there were still a lot of empty tables and the food was served buffet style, so we needn't worry about running out of food. then my teammates and TL followed at around 11am.

while we were eating there was a short program, with speeches from mommy les, bernie and john, the top 3 people. then there was a raffle. teacher louie (our trainor) got a spa gift certificate, louise (from wave 1) won a powerbooks GC, daddy john (wave 2, my batchmate!) got a DVD player, and mhay (wave 1) won one of 2 21" flat screen TVs. each of us also got a gift basket with noche buena goodies.

after the short program we continued with the partying. it was eat-all-you-can and drink-all-you-can (buckets of san mig lite, really!). most of us stayed till 2pm, and got to rub elbows with the main men and women.

we left at 2pm, and i shared a cab with ian, gracie and ella, who were all going to makati. i had texted dianne that i was going over to her office so we could go home together. i couldn't take the bus because a) the basket was quite heavy and b) i drank 4 bottles of san mig lite, and i was a bit…um, tipsy (lack of sleep + 4 bottles of san mig lite = bad combination).

but dianne and i didn't go home at once. we dropped by SM bicutan so she could look at some phones since she was buying a new one. then we went to the pet store to buy feeders for the arrowana. because of the holiday traffic we got home at around 4:15pm.

i went to sleep at around 5pm, and didn't wake up till around 8:30pm, since mom and dad said they'd be bringing me to work.  so i came to work still sleepy and got to the office at 10:15pm.

since most of us who went to the party made it to work that night, and since we met the required service level, mama les was so happy that she ordered food for all of us from yellow cab (pizza, pasta and chicken, yumyum), which meant free lunch for all of us. :)

i'm just glad i decided to go to the party. not only was it a good bonding moment with my teammates, it was also a great way to meet people from other batches and hobnob with our bosses. great way for networking, too. :)

will be posting pictures once my teammates post the pics from their cameras online. :)

on saturday…

…it will be the company's christmas party, 10am, at congo grill el pueblo.

we're in a bit of a quandary. of course we would like to attend the party, since it will be the first for the company. our shifts end at 10am and el pueblo's like, what, 5 or 10 minutes away (i don't know, they said it's at the back of megamall, but i don't remember the place that much), so there shouldn't be a problem if we want to attend.

the problem is that we have work at 11pm of the same day, and of course we would want to go home and sleep. the party won't end at 12 noon, and we certainly don't want to leave after staying only an hour. our options are:

a) not attend the party. nope. not possible.
b) attend the party, stay until about 1pm then go home.
c) attend the party, stay till it ends, then go home. which means getting only an hour or two of sleep because there might be traffic on the way home (it is the christmas season, no doubt about it, and the traffic will be horrible, especially at edsa crossing).
d) make reservations at the legend villas so that we can sleep longer and not have to go home.
e) be absent from work. nope.
f) attend the party, still until 1pm, then check in at sogo hotel in guadalupe with female teammates. feasible.

we're toying around with option (f). it will be cheaper than staying at the legend villas (a unit is worth Php4,000++ for a 24-hour stay).  it's actually better to do this, especially for most of us who live far from work, like gracie who lives in cavite and ella who goes home to san pedro. as for me, going home isn't really a hard thing to do, but with the christmas rush and the time (around 2pm), it might be hard.

i don't know. we still have to discuss it on wednesday.

read in juliana palermo's column in yesterday's philippine star that she presented the awards to the 2007 ginoong pilipinas-USA winners. the event was held last nov. 25th in SF.

i was surprised to see the name of the second runner up, because it was very familiar to me.

ingel catindig.

yes, tito gani and tita girlie's bunso before they left for the US in 1983 (they had another son after him, named vincent), and my childhood friend isah's younger brother. last time i saw him was in 1999 when the whole family came home for a vacation. i didn't see him when i visited in 2001. he was asleep or something.

anyway, he's grown into a hunk. well, i guess he is, because he wouldn't have gotten the 2nd runner up award if he weren't.

there he is, smaller version. :)

saturday’s for seniang

Saturday, December 9, 2006

so i'm home alone on a saturday afternoon, lulling myself to sleep since i still have work tonight, the last night of my shift. can't believe i lived  through another week of tech support, and i manage to resolve a lot of issues. this is something i've never done before. and i'm proud that i learn something new every day, even though it actually tires me out.

and now they're rolling out changes on our system that we're expected to adjust to in real time. nothing new to me, since this has happened before in my former account.

*****

a new storm's expected to make landfall today in samar. it's named utor, or more locally, seniang (such ugly names). the asean summit in cebu was postponed because of it, although i suspect that the postponement was more because of a terrorist threat or lack of preparation rather than the weather.

2 big storms in 2 weeks. that's a record. i just hope this won't cause damage. we've had enough with reming already.

thoughts….

Tuesday, December 5, 2006

it's tuesday already? dang, i have one more night to sleep properly, then it's back to work.

last week, the company arranged for us to be billeted at the legend villas just in case supertyphoon reming made it impossible for us to go home. well, we all know now that the typhoon spared manila on friday morning, so most of us went home. but the reservations were still there, so there were some (me included) who availed of the accommodations.

so there we were, 3 girls (gracie, ella and me) and a guy (richard) from our team who were convinced to stay. after our shift we first had lunch at metrowalk in ortigas, at the brazil! brazil! restaurant. mommy leslie wanted to have lunch at capische, but since it was still closed, we opted for the resto next door. they had a buffet lunch featuring barbecued meat and a whole lot more, sao paolo style. i saw that style featured in discovery travel and living, and i knew how to deal with it. :D so we had salads, fish, potatoes, some pasta, strawberry cake, and a whole lot of meat (pork, beef, chicken and sausage)…eat all you can, till my tummy almost burst and we almost fell asleep on the table.

after that satisfying lunch we headed to the starbucks across the resto where i got me a short chamomile tea to calm my stomach and hopefully make me fall asleep. then we checked into the hotel. there were 10 of us, 8 girls and 2 guys, and another 2 girls followed.

at our unit (it's not really a hotel room, more like a unit with a kitchenette and living area downstairs and a bedroom upstairs with 6 beds and a bathroom), we chose our beds and mommy les said she was going to sleep. so ella, gracie and i, together with richard, went to pioneer mall to get some sleepwear and toiletries. we went back to the hotel at around 2:45pm, and after taking a bath we tried to go to sleep.

i woke up at around 9pm, bathed, and watched a little tv while waiting for my mates. mommy les and the two other girls who roomed with us had already left earlier, so we had the unit to ourselves. we left the hotel at around 10:40pm, and we were almost late.

after our shift the next day we went back to the hotel to get our stuff and to avail of the free breakfast. then we went home.

that's all. :P
